Web site developers can display e-mail addresses as links. If you click the link, it takes you directly
to your e-mail program, opens a new message, and inserts the given e-mail address in the "To" field.
Obviously this is a pretty handy way to start a new e-mail message.
However, this process depends on your web browser and your e-mail program working together.
If you click an e-mail link, and it does not work, it could be due to a syntax error on the part
of the web site developer. So try it on another web site. Most web sites will have an e-mail link
somewhere, especially on their contact page. Here's a link to my e-mail address that you can try:
If e-mail links don't work for you on any web site, then of course the problem is on your end.
Unfortunately, there is no quick fix. The solution will depend greatly on what program you are using
to browse web sites (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera) and what program you are using
to send e-mails (Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus).
You can always consult the help file for your program.
Or perhaps some of these links will help:
You may also find it helpful to know that this type of link is called a "mailto link". So, you may want to go to
the support web page for your web browser or e-mail program
(i.e. support.microsoft.com)
and search on
"mailto link doesn't work".
