These steps show how you can add an icon to your desktop that will launch a web site when you double-click it. This is a great solution if you have a favorite web site that you visit often.

  1. Right click anywhere on your desktop, select "New", and then select "Shortcut".

  2. In the "Command line" field, enter the address of the web page like this:

    Create Shortcut

  3. Click "Next".

  4. Enter a title for this shortcut:

Select a Title for the Program

  5. Click "Finish".

  6. When you're all done, you'll have an additional icon on your desktop that corresponds to your default web browser. It'll probably look something like one of these:

Internet Explorer shortcut Netscape Navigator shortcut Opera shortcut

NOTE: There are also a few other ways to add a web shortcut to your desktop. In Internet Explorer, you can first go to the web page, then select "File->Send->Shortcut to Desktop". Or in Navigator, you can first go to the web page, then drag the small icon next to the "Location" entry. I provided the instructions above because they will work, no matter what browser you're using. Suffice it to say that it's pretty easy to do, no matter which method you choose.
